Which is the best treatment for baldness – Medication or Surgery?

Many of us are so wrecked by hair loss that most contemplate a cure through a serious hair surgery. If you think that this may work wonders then sit back and do some more research. It is true that many men, who visit their bathroom mirror each day, find it agonising to see their hairline recede every inch each day, however, the truth is far more complex and needs a bit of consultation.

Hair transplant is increasing becoming popular but many face added risks while going under a knife. The leading method of hair transplant is follicular unit transplantation. This surgery is complex and involves moving large chunks of up to four hairs from the back of the head to the sides and the balding areas. But this method is not fool proof and may lead to scars and other effects that are more devastating in the long run. Success is met often but disasters too are all too common.

There are some topical solutions that are available in the market and can work wonders in certain cases. You need to realise that baldness can be cured to a certain extent through the use of topical medications that are available in the pharmacy or the local druggist. All you need is a bit of guidance before you embark on an application spree. Rogaine’s active ingredient minoxidil is one such solution that vastly improves blood flow to your scalp. This is a medication that can be used twice daily and may help in the regrowth of hair in just about 15 days. Procepia’s finasteride also blocks dihydrotestosteron or DTH, a hormone that cause hair loss in males after a certain age. Many men are advised to use both solutions at the same time and this method is often called the “Fin and Foam” technique. The finasteride and the foaming minoxidil can be used with Nizoral A-D, an anti fungal and anti bacterial medication applied on the scalp to fight dandruff. These potions work well and help in the regrowth of hair.

In many other cases, doctors in the United States have prescribed their patients, who are mostly middle aged, the drug Avodart. This drug is often given to fight enlarged prostrates and can be more powerful than finasteride as it synthesizes the DHT. Many patients who suffered from prolonged baldness may find it useful but many doctors do not recommend this drug for patients who are young and in their twenties.

If you are not into using Allopathic medicines, chances of you subscribing to palmetto and naturopathy products can be the best solutions. These work in limited ways on baldness that is especially not aggravated and can show good results. Palmetto and pumpkin seed oil is effective in containing DHT. Men who are reluctant to try drugs can opt for these natural treatments. Herbal drugs have no side effects and if taken under good supervision may lead to sustained results in the long run.
