Low Level Laser Therapy or LLLT, commonly known as cold laser is an adjunct to standard medical treatment for hair loss.
It works on the principle of slowly heating up the hair shaft through a series of small diode emitters. This slow heat travels through the hair shaft and stimulates the hair roots and surrounding stem cells. This mild stimulation may result in reduction in hair loss and making the hair shaft thicker. The results are variable and depend on individual response.
Recently some LLLT devices got FDA approval for use in Male Pattern Hair loss, but the effects remain debatable.
They may be however, used as additional or reinforcing treatment modality besides main hair loss treatment like finasteride and minoxidil.
Devices like combs, caps and helmets are easily available for home use. Patients may use them 2-3 times per week. It may take upto 6 months to show any benefit.
After Hair Transplant in Delhi at MedLinks, we do not usually recommend the use of LLLT. However, patients, may use it without any negative effect after 1 month of the procedure.
