What Should You Expect 12 Days After Your Hair Transplantation?

12 days after hair transplant, one might experience some shedding. It occurs due to a phenomenon called shock loss. One may expect to experience it as a regular part of the growth cycle. For the first time, you might feel worried about your newly implanted hairs falling out. However, that's normal in this phase. The transplanted hair goes through a resting phase before it starts producing new follicles.

12 Days after the Transplantation – A Day-Wise Explanation

The twelve-day span after the transplantation is a big thing for every patient. But you need to be cautious about your recovery because post-operative care is important. So, here's a rundown of what you may expect 12 days after the surgery. Hair transplant results day by day.

Day 1 to 3

The next day following the procedure, one may experience pain and irritation in the scalp area. It may swell; thus, you should listen to your surgeon's advice.

You shouldn't touch the area; always remember to take your medications promptly. Besides taking your prescribed medicines on time, please avoid direct sunlight. Between the second and third day, you might expect a bit of swelling occuring in the area. This is the time when you can experience mild headaches and irritation.

Day 4 to 6

Scabs or crusts may develop in the treated region between the fourth and fifth day. These scabs protect your graft from any external injury. There won't be any swelling after six days of surgery as long as you adhere to post-operative recommendations by your surgeon. Shampooing your hair shouldn't be done during this time. However, ensure that you clean the area with prescribed hair care products. You should avoid performing vigorous activities during this time.

Day 7 to 9

On the seventh day after hair transplant, you might experience scalp itchiness and sweating. Regardless of the itchiness, you should avoid scratching or picking the area. Else, it might result in damage. At this point, your surgeon will advise you not to perform any strenuous exercises or consume cigarettes/alcohol.

The next day (i.e., on day 8), you will experience crust and scab formation clearing out from the area where follicular units were implanted.

On day 9, you may shampoo your hair. However, you should use only the hair care products recommended by your surgeon. You might expect hair grafts to become secured by day 9.

Day 10 and 11

Those red scabs on the treated area will eventually disappear on the tenth day after hair transplant and eleventh day. It usually starts on the seventh day. However, if you experience slower recovery, it might occur on the eleventh day (or anytime between day seven and day 11).

Day 12

All the crusting would be gone 12 days after hair transplant. It's quite imperative to shampoo your hair in such a way that the scabbing is cleared. This won't inhibit the growth of new hair. Ensure that you remove the scabs gently. Vigorously removing them might result in follicular damage. Between days 10 and 14 days after hair transplant, grafts will be secured.

Things to Expect 12 Days after a Hair Transplant

The healing period differs from one hair transplantation to another – FUE, FUT, and Perfect-i transplant. However, most people experience a few side effects within one week of the surgery. After this phase, you may experience slight tingling or numbness.

If you opt for FUE, your doctor will instruct you to resume your regular activities by the fourteenth day. However, you might wait a few more days for the FUT transplant. Things you may expect during the post-operative care include the following:

  • Slight itchiness (so you shouldn't scratch your scalp)
  • Shock hair loss or shedding
  • Oozing will subside
  • Minor scarring will be noticeable in some cases

If your condition worsens during this time, you must not hesitate to consult your Medlinks doctor 12 days after hair transplant.
