Beard Hair Transplant
July 29, 2026
Beard density is mostly decided by genetics. The number of hair follicles you have is set before you are born. That number does not increase later in life either. This is a reason why one man can grow a thick, full beard at nineteen while someone may still have patchy growth at 40.
A beard transplant does not create new follicles. It works by moving healthy follicles. It is usually from the back of the scalp into the beard area. Each follicle is placed at the right angle and direction so the new hair blends naturally with your beard.
MedLinks in Delhi performs beard hair transplants using sterile, single-use instruments for every patient, under the supervision of Dr Gaurang Krishna, an AIIMS Delhi alumnus and hair transplant specialist known for developing the PERFECT-i technique. What follows covers the procedure, realistic results, recovery, and cost.
Donor follicles are placed wherever the beard looks thin, patchy, or has no growth at all.
There are generally two ways to take the donor hair for beard transplants. FUE (Follicular Unit Extractions) is usually the preferred method. It does not leave long linear scars and works well for the number of grafts most beard procedures require.
Once the transplanted follicles settle in, they grow like natural beard hair. You can shave, trim and style them just as you would the rest of your beard hair.
Two variables decide how this turns out. How much healthy donor hair you have, and how well it gets placed.
Follicles are relocated, never manufactured. So your donor supply is a hard ceiling on final density, and no amount of surgical skill moves it.
The donor zone does have one useful property: it resists thinning genetically. Transplanted beard hair inherits that resistance and holds up long term, unlike native beard hair, which sometimes doesn't.
Growth keeps to a schedule. Nothing much happens for the first couple of months, new hair appears around month three, and density and texture finish settling somewhere between month eight and twelve. Judging the result at month four tells you very little.
Worth considering if you have:
Patchy growth across cheeks, jawline, or chin
Scarring from acne, burns, or injury
Uneven regrowth after a medical treatment
A thin moustache, sparse chin coverage, or a jawline lacking definition
No one settles this from a photograph. Donor availability, existing density, and skin condition all get checked in person.
Redness and mild swelling clear inside a few days. Small scabs form at each graft site and come off by themselves within a week or two.
Numbness and itching at the donor site are common while it heals.
Then weeks two through four bring the shed. Transplanted hair falls out. This alarms nearly every patient, and it shouldn't, because the follicle underneath is intact and cycling normally.
Rejection isn't a risk here, since the hair is your own. Infection and permanent scarring stay rare under proper sterile protocol.
Local anaesthesia, four to eight hours, length depending on graft count. Follicles come out individually and go in at the angle the growth direction requires.
You leave the same day. Normal activity resumes in two or three days for most patients, but hard workouts and direct sun on the treated area stay off the table for around two weeks.
Graft count sets the price. Graft count itself depends on how much area needs filling and how dense you want it, with clinic location, surgeon experience, and extraction method stacked on top of that.
Billing runs per graft, not per package. A clinic quoting a flat figure before it has looked at your donor area is guessing at your number.

At MedLinks, We focus on providing safe, precise, and natural-looking beard hair transplant results using advanced techniques and strict sterile protocols. We perform beard hair transplants with FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) as the standard technique, which allows precise extraction and placement of individual hair follicles to create a natural beard appearance. Every procedure is carefully planned according to the patient's facial features, beard growth pattern, and desired outcome to achieve balanced and long-lasting results. Our approach is centered around patient safety, personalized treatment planning, and delivering a comfortable experience throughout the hair restoration journey.
Every beard hair transplant plan is unique. The exact graft requirement, cost, and treatment timeline can only be determined through an in-person evaluation. Consult with MedLinks experts for a personalized assessment and guidance.
Yes, the transplanted hair comes from an area of the scalp which is naturally resistant to hair loss. Once the transplanted follicles heal properly and start to grow, they usually continue to grow for life.
No. Anaesthesia numbs the area, and what registers is pressure, not pain. Soreness afterwards usually clears in a day or two.
There's no standard number. A single patch might require a few hundred grafts, while a full beard reconstruction may need several times that amount. This is why an exact graft count can only be determined after a proper consultation and assessment.
Rarely, when performed correctly. Smoking and not following post-transplant care instructions are two factors that can negatively impact graft survival and overall results.
The extraction and implantation process is similar. The main difference is the implantation angle and direction, as facial hair grows in multiple directions compared to scalp hair.
Yes, donor hair supply is limited. During the initial consultation, the donor area is evaluated and planned carefully to ensure that future touch-up procedures can be considered if required. If the donor supply is insufficient, it is discussed before the treatment.
