Contraceptives that have a low ‘androgen index’ level are the ones that help to prevent hair loss. Those that have higher ‘androgen index’ levels are known to cause hair loss. Pills that are prescribed for preventing hair loss are Desogen, Ortho-Cept, Ortho-Cyclen, Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Micronor.
Who cannot take these pills?
Women who have experienced blood clots in arms, legs, and lungs are not advised to take these pills. Women who are suffering from heart disease or breast cancer, high blood pressure or migraines are also not advised to intake these contraceptives for preventing hair loss.
